Ford V8 Pickup 1.5 Ton (Barrel Front) – 1938 – SOLD

Here we have a simply wonderful fully restored ‘barrel front’ 1938 Ford V8 pickup.

It once formed part of the world renowned ‘Paradise Collection’ of classic commercials owned by John Mould of Berkshire. Mr Mould’s collection was very well known to consist of vehicles restored to the very highest standard….this amazing Ford is very consistent with that reputation.

The truck is currently sign written for use as a promotional vehicle for a Berkshire based haulage company (thankfully these are easily removable stickers).

The truck is absolutely in tip top running order and drives just like she should. The brakes and steering are spot on, as is the suspension and all electrics. Everything works just like it should and she is ready to drive, show or to be used for promotional purpose.

The displayed mileage is 51958.

Very importantly the truck is restored to the original specification and hasn’t been ‘hot roded’ or customised in any way. This will only add to the rising value of such a special vehicle.

Being 77 years old and therefore a 1938 model, the truck has the characteristic oval grille (hence the nickname the ‘barrel front’). The bonnet opens ‘alligator fashion’ and the cab has had a new greenhouse and updated instrument panel from this model year.

Another interesting fact worth knowing for the lucky new owner of this wonderful truck is that 1938 was a bad year for the auto industry as a whole and Ford trucks ceded first place in the commercial section to Chevrolet and truck production sank to a new low (since that of the great depression 1929-33). The upside is that 1938 Ford trucks were less plentiful when new and therefore remarkably scarcer now.

The one and half-ton pickup on a 112 inch wheelbase was designated the Model 81C and fitted with the legendary flat head V8 engine producing a healthy 85 BHP
